Travis Thacker - sax
Travis Thacker is a Bloomington based saxophonist who has been in the music scene since 2000. Travis studied with Professor Jim Boitos from 1998-2004 and graduated from Illinois State University in 2004 with a Music Business degree. He is co-owner and technician at Carl's Pro Band and has taught band instrument repair clinics throughout the US. He was a founding member of regional touring bands Public Display of Funk and Lexicon, and frequently plays with Chicken Shack blues band.
Toby Thomas - sax
Toby Thomas received his Bachelor’s Degree in music education from Illinois State University and his Master’s Degree in saxophone performance from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he studied with Lynn Klock. As a performer, he has played across the United States and in Russia. He has been a band director in both Illinois and Massachusetts, teaching students of all ages and ability levels in both the classical and jazz idioms. He has been regularly sought after as a clinician, adjudicator, private instructor and performer throughout the Central Illinois and Western Massachusetts areas. He has performed with such artists as Marvin Stamm, Chris Vadala, Bobby Shew and Benny Golson, among others. Locally, he currently performs with such groups as JC and the Redemption, Dexter O’Neal and the Funkyard, the Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra, the Central Illinois Jazz Society House Band, the Illinois Central Jazz Train and many others in the Peoria area. Some of his compositions for big band can also be heard being performed by the Illinois Central Jazz Train.
Todd Kelly - trumpet
Dr. Todd Kelly is Associate Professor of Trumpet and Director of Jazz Ensembles at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Dr. Kelly teaches trumpet, directs the Bradley Jazz Ensembles and Jazz Combos, teaches Jazz Improvisation, and serves as the advisor for the Music Business program. Under his direction, the jazz program includes two big bands, one combo, and a year - long Jazz Improvisation sequence. Dr. Kelly holds the Doctor of Arts degree in trumpet performance from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He received a Bachelor of Music Education degree with high honors from the University of Montana, and a Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Northern Colorado. Dr. Kelly maintains a busy performing schedule in the Central Illinois area with the Todd Kelly Jazz Quintet, the Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra, Four Other Brothers, JC and the Redemption, and as a freelance jazz and classical musician. He has toured throughout the United States with Indian tabla artist Sandip Burman. He has also performed with Wayne Newton, Jerry Lewis, Charo, the Fifth Dimension, Lesley Gore, Steve Lippia, Mannheim Steamroller, and the national touring companies of Hairspray, Wicked, Mary Poppins, The Rat Pack is Back, Billy Elliot, and Chicago. Dr. Kelly has been published in Band World, Downbeat, JAZZed, and The Instrumentalist. His book, “Chet Baker: 21 Selected Solos” is available through Jamey Aebersold Jazz and ejazzlines.com. In the spring of 2013, Dr. Kelly received the Slane College of Fine Arts Faculty Achievement Award for Excellence in Teaching. Todd Kelly is an artist/clinician for Conn/Selmer in Elkhart, Indiana. He and his wife Kirsten are the proud parents of Connor and Maren.
Justin Bainter - trumpet
Justin received his Bachelor’s in Music Education from Bradley University and is currently teaching middle school orchestra at Dunlap Valley Middle School. Prior to his time at Bradley, Justin was a student at Western Illinois University where he toured Europe with their Jazz Studio Orchestra. During his time at WIU, he also performed for two summers with the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps. He is a sought after performer, serving as a player in the Prairie Wind Ensemble, a brass quintet, as well as JC and The Redemption. He is also a highly-regarded marching band drill designer, music clinician, and private trumpet teacher in the central Illinois area.
Carl Anderson - trombone
Carl Anderson plays trombone in the horn line for JC and The Redemption. Carl is a commercial trombone player in the Central Illinois area, specializing in traditional jazz from the 20’s and 30's, and has his own 7-piece New Orleans Jazz Band that has just released their third album. He is also the founding member of the 16 piece Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra and has toured Europe with that group. In the past, Carl has performed with the Temptations, the Harry James Orchestra, and the Lawrence Welk All Stars. During the summers, Carl is the principal trombonist for the Peoria Municipal Band. He is also a member of the Prairie Wind Ensemble where he has served as trombonist, soloist, and guest conductor. He is the General Manager for Kidder Music Service and has been active in the music business for 27 years. Additionally, Carl serves as an Affiliate Instructor for Bradley University where he teaches the Music Business Degree Program. When not playing music you can find him underwater as an avid swimmer, scuba diver, and Certified PADI DiveMaster.
